Perez Camps collaborates with IAAC in Fab Lab BCN, in the research, developement and production of new laser applications and improving traditional manufacture's ways. One's Fab Lab working areas is Fab Lab Pro, that serves as a place for prototypes and scale models manufacture for professionals and companies of any field related to design, where IAAC has 4 machines for design's production and making.

IAAC

The IAAC is an international centre of education and research that focuses on architecture understood as a discipline that encompasses different scales, ranging from territorial analysis, urban development, architectural projects and digital fabrications to informational environments.

Located in Barcelona, one of the international capitals of Urbanism, the institution develops a multidisciplinary program that explores urban and international territorial phenomena, placing especial emphasis on the opportunities that emerges from developing countries and the cultural, economic and social values that architecture may contribute to society.

Besides the educational program IAAC develops its research program in collaboration with external experts, invited architects, researchers and former participants of the master program.

Some of the most important projects and publications done by IAAC recently are Hipercatalunya (a research about the territory of Catalonia) The Media House (a project developed with the MIT's Media Lab) and the Metapolis Dictionary of Advanced Architecture.

In addition to research programs and international projects, the agenda is completed with lectures, excursions, exhibitions, publications and competitions.

FAB LAB BCN is a production, investigation and education centre that uses digital last generation machines destined to the creation of prototypes and scale models for architecture, construction, industrial design and any activity that needs the connection from a computer to a machine to manipulate materials according to digital instructions.
These technologies also allow introducing in the material production, parametric design and manufacturing of different elements without added cost, impelling this way, the personal manufacture.

This centre has mainly three work scopes:

FAB LAB PRO: to serve as a place for prototypes and scale models manufacture for professionals and companies of any field related to design.

FAB LAB MASTERS to serve as a high research and tutoring centre mainly related to IAAC masters, to professionals of national scale and lines of work proposed by other national or international organizations.

FAB LAB CENTRAL to serve as an educative centre to young people and children, according to the principles of FAB LAB group of MIT’s For Bits and Atoms centre, therefore participating in the world-wide network of Fab Labs.

Initially, the IAAC counts with three machines that will be extended according to its necessities:

- On one hand, a CNC machine that allows cutting foam wood or materials that can be milled, up to a 3000x1500x200 size, which allows making complex prototypes and productions of surfaces for interiors and construction.

- A laser cutting system of 100 W maximum power, that allows to cut and carve diverse materials up to a of 600x1000 mm size.

- A 3D printer machine, that allows to print three-dimensional objects in color from a single turn, up to a 210x300x250 mm size.

- A laser engraving and cutting system of 400W that allows to cut big thickness of organic material and small thickness of metals, up to 1524x3045 mm maximun part size.
